About

When Carrie moved to Seattle from NYC, she was bummed about being so far away from Broadway (she had loved theater since she was a kid and had the boxes of Playbills to prove it!).

But she was eager to find some jewels in the Seattle arts landscape.  Once she started exploring, she found that the scene was surprisingly vibrant, but also confusing and fragmented.  How was anyone supposed to navigate the large number of different venues and organizations? Some big players were well known, but what was happening at the smaller spots all over town?  How could you know whether it was worthwhile to spend over $50 and trudge in the rain to that ballet or that musical, rather than stay home and watch TV?  She wished she had an “arts buddy” — that friend who knew all the cool events happening each night and could just tell her which ones she would like.

That’s when Culturyst was born.  Carrie envisioned a way for others like herself to easily and confidently explore the arts in Seattle.  Instead of having to double down on a subscription to a single arts organization, she could curate a monthly selection across a range of venues.  By combining that service with insider info about each event and recommendations on the best nearby restaurants and bars, she wants to bring you a monthly “arts night out” that will keep you excited and engaged in Seattle’s vibrant scene — without you having to do any research or planning.   She’s still thinking about additional ways to give information, access and recommendations, and is open to suggestions, so feel free to drop your “arts buddy” a line with any ideas — and enjoy the show!
